Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

At UK Workbenches LTD, we have a heritage of over 12 years in manufacturing premium quality workbenches. Our experienced team ensures that each product meets unique customer needs. We pride ourselves on offering a wide array of products at competitive prices. We aim to deliver fully assembled products in approximately 10-15 working days at no additional cost in most instances.

Our business hours are from 6.30am to 5pm, Monday to Thursday and 7am to 1pm on Fridays (excluding bank holidays). We are closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

If ordered via the website, you will receive an acknowledgement of the payment made, and a VAT invoice will be sent to you either by email or post.

Given the wide variety of customisable options we offer, we typically manufacture each workbench to order to ensure it meets the specific requirements of each customer. However, we do offer some ready-made options on our special offers page that are immediately available.

UK Workbenches LTD is based in Mossley, close to Ashton-under-Lyne in the North West of England.

Specification Questions

The gap between the bottom shelf and the worktop is 610mm.

Yes, you can carry out welding work on our steel top workbenches. By default, our workbenches come with galvanised tops made from 2mm galvanised steel sheet. However, if you require a non-galvanised top for welding purposes then please contact us or go to our welding benches section.

The dimensions of the upper shelf are the same as the length of the workbench, with a depth of 300mm. It is positioned 300mm above the worktop.

Yes, when you order a vice from UK Workbenches Ltd, it comes with the necessary bolts for attachment. However, for ease of transportation, we do not fit the vice to the workbench. The worktop is pre-drilled with holes so that you can easily fit the vice yourself upon delivery. The vice is usually located in a cupboard or tied to the shelf for your convenience.

The rear lip is a 40mm tall piece of galvanised steel at the back of the workbench. Its purpose is to prevent items from falling off the back of the workbench. If you do not require the rear lip, we can omit it from your workbench at no extra cost. Please let us know your preference when placing your order.

The louvre panels and tool panels are 445mm in height and the length of the bench.

The galvanised cupboards supplied by UK Workbenches Ltd measure 600mm x 600mm, matching the depth of the workbench.

The size of a standard drawer is 413 x 455 x 90mm.

Yes, all standard steel cupboards and drawers from UK Workbenches Ltd come with a lockable door/drawer. 2 keys are provided per lock.

A1: Our medium-duty workbenches do not come with vice plates, as it is uncommon to use a vice with this type of workbench.

A2: Yes, all our heavy-duty and super heavy-duty workbenches come with vice plates as a standard feature. The vice plate is located in the steel frame on the front right-hand side when facing the front of the workbench. If you prefer, we can also place the vice plate on the left-hand side at no extra cost. Simply inform us of your preference when placing your order.

A3: The standard vice plate on our heavy-duty and super heavy-duty workbenches measures 230mm x 110mm x 3mm.

A1: Our medium-duty workbenches are equipped with all-metal leveling feet, providing approximately 20mm of adjustment on each leg.

A2: By default, our heavy-duty and super heavy-duty workbenches do not come with leveling feet. However, if you require leveling feet for your workbench, please let us know and we can offer an additional price for supplying the workbench with all-metal leveling feet.

Our stainless steel workbenches utilise 30 x 30 x 1.5mm box section steel. We offer this in 2 grades – 430 and 304.

For our heavy-duty and extra heavy-duty workbenches, we use 50 x 50 x 5mm angle steel.

Our medium-duty workbenches feature 38 x 38mm and 25 x 50mm hollow sections of steel.

Technical Questions

Yes, our workbenches can support powered machinery as long as it remains within the Uniformly Distributed Load (UDL) weight limit specified for the workbench. However, please note that the vibration generated by machinery may require a reduction in the specified UDL, depending on the weight of the machine and the amount of vibration. It is important to avoid using powered machinery on a workbench with a steel top alone.

For supporting powered machinery, it is recommended to use either a 45mm solid wood worktop or a steel worktop on top of a 45mm solid wood surface. If you have any concerns or need further assistance regarding the compatibility of your machinery with our workbenches, please feel free to contact us.

The standard colour of our medium-duty cupboards, drawers, and units was changed in July 2016. Therefore, if you ordered your previous cupboard/drawer before that date, it may have a different colour than the current standard.

Yes, other colours are available; however, please note that an additional charge will apply unless you place a large order of 20+ workbenches. For specific colour requirements, please contact our sales team to discuss your options.
